Various S&box Projects

Here is a collection of screenshots from prototypes I was working on in the s&box game engine

I grew up playing a lot of Garry's Mod, so when I heard about s&box I was insanely interested. Thankfully I got access to the developer test pretty early on, and was able to make some cool projects. I feel like working in a fresh, rapidly changing engine with limited documentation really made me a better programmer, and around this time is when I started thinking 'Wow, maybe I actually am alright at this?'.

The video below is from very early on, but its the only one I have for this project

The first project I worked on was Flood, a re-imagining of the classic gamemode from Garry's Mod. The gameplay loop consists of two different stages, a 5 minute build period, where players have to build a Raft out of a variety props in the game, and the second stage, where water rises across the map, and players fight to destroy each others rafts and be the last one standing. This prototype actually got very far along in development, it was basically feature complete and everything was networked properly, we were just lacking art and props for raft building.

The second project I worked on in s&box was called 'Neon Ninjas', it was a movement shooter similar to titan fall but a co-operative roguelike gameplay loop. For prototyping I built out a time trial mode similar to the gauntlet in titanfall, this prototype also got pretty far along in development, it featured wall-running, sliding, a grappling hook, and a rogue-like inventory system with stacking buffs. The time trial mode also featured a working leaderboard for players that was hosted on my VPS.

I lost all videos or screenshots of my last prototype unfortunately, but it was a tower defense game set in your house where you were mining cryptocurrency, where you could go on an interactable PC inside the game and order furniture and weapons, they would be delivered to your house by a drone and you had to barricade yourself in and protect your crypto miners against waves of NPC's, you could upgrade your crypto miners to make more money and purchase better weapons and defenses.
